$240,000 Awarded in New Grants to Improve the Lives of Older Adults

The Foundation has Awarded $769,000 in Grants in Past Year

The Field Hall Foundation announces new grants totaling $240,000 for its Winter 2019/20 cycle.  The grants will help local organizations improve the lives of older adults through a wide range of services and innovative pilot programs, including peer counseling for newly disabled seniors, adaptive services for the visually impaired, and supportive services for grandparents solely responsible for raising their grandchildren. 

Several of the organizations receiving full grants include:

Community Services Programs, Inc.                                 

$50,000 – To pilot a Senior Resident Coordinator Program which will help seniors receive the services they need to age in place

Family Service Society of Yonkers                         

$25,000 – To support and expand their Kinship Support Program, which provides assistance to grandparents who are raising their grandchildren

VISIONS/Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired 

$50,000 – To support the expansion of their Adaptive Living Program to visually impaired seniors in Westchester County, allowing them to live safely and independently in their own homes

 

Westchester Independent Living Center, Inc.

$50,000 – To pilot a post-rehabilitation program in collaboration with Burke Rehabilitation Hospital to help newly-disabled seniors successfully transition to life at home and in the community

                                   

Smaller grants were awarded to:

Center for Aging in Place

$7,500 – For a Patient Advocate Program which will train senior volunteers to help other seniors navigate the often complex healthcare system

Community Center of Northern Westchester

$10,000 – To pilot a Senior Outreach Program to ensure that all seniors needing help have access to their services, and to provide senior-specific items through their food pantry

Music Conservatory of Westchester

$5,000 – To support their Music Therapy Program, which uses music to improve the mental, physical, and emotional well-being of older adults

Support Connection

$2,500 – To provide assistance with day-to-day needs to seniors coping with breast and ovarian cancer, allowing them to focus on their health needs

Westchester Library System

$15,000 – To pilot a Reading for a Lifetime Program which will allow visually impaired adults to read at their local library with the use of vision-enhanced technology

John R. Ahearn, the Foundation’s CEO states, “These organizations are providing innovative programs and services that will have a great impact on the quality of life for the older adults in the community, and the Foundation is proud to support them.”

The Foundation has awarded $769,000 in grants over the past year to not-for-profit organizations and local government agencies in Dutchess, Putnam and Westchester counties.  Letters of Inquiry are accepted on a continuous basis, and LOIs received by January 20, 2020, will be considered for the upcoming Summer 2020 grant cycle.  For more information, visit the Foundation’s website,  http://www.fieldhallfoundation.org, or contact:
