'Chowdown' for American Veterans a huge success

The PFC Joseph P Dwyer Vet 2 Vet in Putnam held its sixth annual Chowdown yesterday for veterans at Putnam County Golf Course in Mahopac. Hundreds of Veterans and their families sign up for the event every year, which is usually held in the facility’s main hall where the attendees are usually are treated to a sit down meal with all the trimmings and a USO Style show. Due to the  Covid-19 pandemic, the event was made possible this year by having it as a drive thru. Unfortunately this solution did not allow for the USO reenactment to be held.  This year the Veterans from throughout Putnam County signed up in advance and  received a time window in which to arrive and receive there meals. Starting at 10 am and ending at 1pm over 230 meals were served to the veterans. Traffic at the entrance to the course was smooth and orderly as veterans and golfers were arriving in a consistent stream all day. Volunteers from The Knights of Columbus, Our Lady of the Lakes Council  #6318 in Carmel assisted in traffic control and United for the Troops volunteers along with the NY Riders handed out meals as the vehicles passed through the line.

The event was organized by the PFC Joseph P Dwyer Vet 2 Vet in Putnam, the Putnam County Veterans Service Agency, Putnam County Cares and the volunteers were joined by long time supporters of Veterans issues, Assemblyman Kevin Byrne (R,C,I, 94th Assembly District) and NY State Senator Sue Serino (R,C,I,L-41st District)
