Brewster Students Against Cancer Continue to Give Back to the Community

When a beloved community fundraising event for Ann’s Place (a free, community-based cancer support center) was forced to go virtual, Brewster Students Against Cancer adapted and found a new way to support the non-profit.

Last year, the Brewster High School club participated in Festival of Trees — the largest annual fundraiser for Ann’s Place — by decorating a tree that was raffled off to one lucky festival-goer. This year, the club donated $200 to the non-profit in lieu of decorating a tree for the virtual event.

“Your support through the years has been incredible and we’re thankful for that,” said Lynn Stubbe, Community Engagement and Development Specialist at Ann’s Place, during a virtual check presentation. “Your donation will help a family have yoga or one of our other wellness programs for a month.”

In addition to yoga, Ann’s Place offers support groups and programs ranging from art and horticultural therapy to Reiki and dance.

After the check presentation, Stubbe gave students an overview of the services Ann’s Place is able to provide during the pandemic and even gave a virtual tour of the office.

“I just want to commend the officers and club members of Brewster Students Against Cancer for being a light during these extremely challenging times,” said club advisor Michelle Villano afterward.

In addition to their donation to Ann’s Place, the club partnered with the American Cancer Society and made 56 digital cards that were displayed in pediatric cancer hospital rooms this holiday season.
