Blessing Bags for a Midnight Run to NYC are a Team Effort!

During the holiday season, Camp Herrlich before and after school program campers collected comfort and personal items to make Blessing Bags for the homeless people in New York City.  Compassion is one of our main values that we try to instill in our campers, so this was the perfect project.

In cooperation with Lily Moynihan, a local resident who has been doing a holiday season midnight run for the last two years, camp families collected things like granola bars, socks and sweatshirts, and personal care items, all which might bring some comfort or relief to the vulnerable homeless people during this cold season. Lily also received donations of 100 sandwiches from the owner of Mezzaluna and Limni, community-donated items through an Amazon wish list coordinated by Beth Makaj, and Blessing Bag assembly help from members of the state champion Carmel Rams football team.  Kathy Partenio, staff member, and Beth Kershaw, site director at the Camp Herrlich After School Program at Matthew Paterson Elementary School, coordinated the donations and bag-stuffing on the Camp end.

The Camp Herrlich campers stuffed the Blessing Bags with the items they collected and wrote happy notes to include.  All in all, Lily and her team brought well over 200 bags to give out to the homeless people on the streets of New York City.

Camp Herrlich is grateful to have been offered the opportunity to give back and be a part of such a great community team.
