Brewster High Students Gearing up for Relay For Life on June 1st

The 4th annual Relay for Life, sponsored by the American Cancer Society, is set for June 1st. The event runs from five until midnight where money will be raised throughout the day. Live music and dance performances will be held as well as many booths running bake sales and games set up by BHS clubs. The main event is a lap around the track holding a glow stick for a person they know has passed away from cancer in order to honor their memory. There will also be a Paint the Town Purple vent from may 13th-17th where raffle tickets and luminaria bags will be sold as well as baked good to raise money and show a taste of what will happen at the Relay for Life event.

The money raised from Relay for Life will go toward people who were affected by cancer directly and indirectly. The money is used to fund cure research and for families affected who need financial help, The event is also special in that the money raised isn’t just raised on the day of the relay. Additional money is raised from local establishment donations, raffles and bake sales.

“Cancer, sadly, has affected me in many ways and I’ve lost people to it that has meant the world to me, but to see everyone come out and share their stories and just support each other is really touching and means a lot to me and I’m sure to everyone who attends can agree,” stated student organizer Isabella Ostojic. The event is located at the Brewster track and is open for everyone to stop by throughout the evening. Due to the successfulness of the event in the past, they hope to run the Relay for Life for years to come.
