Reception at Somers Library celebrating the Life and Works of Jeanne Desmotses

RECEPTION: Saturday, 1/25, 3 - 4 pm
Art Exhibit: Paintings by Jeanne Desmotses at the Somers Library
January 2 - 31, during library hours

Jeanne Demotses passed in 2019; The Putnam Arts Council is presenting this show in her honor, to celebrate her life and her art.
Jeanne's primary medium was oil. She also often worked in watercolor, acrylic, pastel, monotype and collage. She experimented in making her own paper to use as a ground for her pastel work, and used the paper as a collage element. Her work ranged from the figurative to the abstract and often combines aspects of both. Jeanne's paintings are in many collections in the U.S. and in Europe. She maintained a studio in Peekskill and was a member of that community's growing artist district. In addition to her classes at the Putnam Arts Council, she also taught oil and watercolor painting at other schools, and portrait painting in her studio. Jeanne studied art at Hunter College, the Art Students League and the Westchester Art Workshop.
