Lake George WInter Carnival Cancelled for 2021

One of New York’s premier vacation destinations in both summer and fall has suffered another covid related cancellation. The Lake George Winter Carnival has been canceled for 2021.

The carnival, usually held over the four weekends of February of each year, draws thousands of visitors to the area from all over the US and Canada where they can enjoy a myriad of winter themed events from bonfires on the ice and outhouse races to BBQ and chicken wing cook offs from various local restaurants and residents. Local restaurants also get in on the fun with ice carvings, bonfires and ice furniture along with offering special drinks and menus to celebrate the winter fun.

Carnival Co-Chairs Louis Tokas and Nancy Nichols made the announcement earlier today in letter posted to their Facebook Page.

In that post co-Chairs Nichols and Tokas said "It is with saddened hearts that we make this decision.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused cancellations of major events this past summer in the Lake George area. The mandated guidelines of COVID-19 have caused this ongoing issue.

“We have struggled with our decision of canceling the Lake George Winter Carnival for the 2021 season. Our concern is for our Winter Carnival volunteer members and visitors who attend this large event to be safe.”

Village of Lake George Mayor Robert Blais said. "Each year the Lake George Winter Carnival provides our region with a much needed economic boost and provides a variety of events that lifts the spirit of thousands during our long winter. We know and respect the many volunteers and understand and appreciate their decision."

The co-chairs said they plan to be back in 2022 and are already planning the biggest and best carnival yet to celebrate the Lake George Winter Festival's 60th year.
