Next To Normal Opens at Theater Barn June 2nd

Closing their 58th season, the Ridgefield Theater Barn is presenting the Pulitzer Prize-winning, Tony Award-winning musical Next to Normal. This contemporary rock musical, with book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey and music by Tom Kitt, is directed by Matt Austin and Jessica Chesbro, with musical direction by Sarah Fay. Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 8pm, June 2nd through the 24th, with Sunday matinees at 5pm on June 11th and 18th. There will be a special alcohol-free presentation Thursday, June 22nd at 8pm.

Next to Normal is a story about a family trying to cope with the impact of trauma and loss in their day-to-day lives and their hopes for the future. Their individual challenges are inextricably intertwined with their collective struggle as a family. By harnessing the emotional power of contemporary music and song, Next to Normal takes the audience on a journey through the highs and lows of dysfunctional relationships, mental health treatment, grief, frustration, transition, healing, and light.

The cast includes Marilyn Olsen (Diana), Rob Bassett (Gabe), Chris Fay (Dan), Hannah Rapaglia (Natalie), Marc Costanzo (Henry), and Bill Warncke (Dr. Madden)

The seating in the theater has been reconfigured to create an immersive and powerful experience, and the show is recommended for mature audiences. In addition, patrons are encouraged to refer to the website for sensory and content disclosures.

The Ridgefield Theater Barn is committed to doing their part to amplify the conversation around mental health in our community and will be scheduling educational talkbacks and panels during the run.

Seating is cabaret-style, and the audience is invited to bring food and drinks. Concessions are also available in the lobby. Doors open one hour prior to curtain. Tickets are $38 for adults, $33 for students, veterans, and seniors, and reservations and more information are available at ridgefieldtheaterbarn.org/next-to-normal
