Veteran Camping On The Appalachian Trail June 2

Join us for fun, stewardship, community and camping on the Appalachian National Scenic Trail for National Trails Day!

Meet at the MTA Metro North Harlem Line - Appalachian Trail train stop to step off the train onto the trail!

Greeters will meet day hikers, volunteers and campers at the train station to direct them to registration. Registration begins at 10 AM at Native Landscapes on Saturday, June 2nd. Hikes and volunteer activities will start at 10:30am in the Pawling Nature Reserve and conclude by 2pm to allow volunteers and day trippers to return to the train station. Shuttles and snacks will be provided.

Overnight campers will carpool to the nearby campground for a free cookout and s'mores. Sunday morning we will enjoy breakfast before heading out for a day hike through a local family-owned farm along the Appalachian Trail.


Saturday, June 2

10:00am: Meet at Appalachian Trail train stop

10:30am - 2:30pm: Volunteer/Hike on the AT

3:00pm: Optional drop off at train station

6:00pm: bonfire cookout and s’mores

Sunday, June 3

9:00am: Breakfast

11:00am: Day hike and lunch

3:00pm: Drop off at Appalachian Trail train stop


Explore

Get outside and take part in guided hikes along the Appalachian National Scenic Trail. Explore stands of red pines, eastern hemlocks, and mixed hardwoods at the reserve.

Length: 2 - 3 Hours
Level of Difficulty: Moderate

Volunteer

Care to lend a hand? Volunteers are needed for trail repair to prevent erosion along a half-mile section of the trail. Must be 18 years or accompanied by an adult to participate in the stewardship activity.

Camp

Active duty, veterans, military family and allies are all invited to stay overnight for a camping experience along the Appalachian Trail. At a neaby camp ground, campers will enjoy a BBQ cookout, bonfire and s'mores. Sunday moring we will prepare a group breakfast while campers pack up their sites. At 11am, we will head out for a day hike through a local family-owned farm along the Appalachian Trail.

Activities will conclude by 3pm on Sunday.
Campers must be 18 years old or accompanied by an adult.
