Recruit NY Weekend At Brewster Fire Department

You're invited to the Recruit NY Open House at the Brewster Fire Department. We are looking for men and women to be Fire and/or EMS volunteers. Come meet some of our local volunteers. Tour the firehouse, fire apparatus and ambulances, see equipment and firematic demonstrations and much more. See our HamletHub article from last year.

In 1870, the Brewster Fire Department was formed by a group of local merchants and willing residents of the community. Their efforts were the beginning of a life saving and property protection organization that has evolved into a modern fire defense and ambulance service. In 2018 Brewster Fire Department responded to 2556 fire and ambulance calls making us the busiest Fire Department in Putnam County.

Outside of NYC an estimated 95% of all firefighters in New York are volunteers. Of more than 1,100 ambulance services, the vast majority are volunteers, and the state has about 33,000 volunteer EMS responders. Emergency volunteers save property tax payers an estimate $3 billion a year in paid services. Benefits for emergency volunteers include a state income tax credit, a real property tax exemption and a length of service award program.
