Brewster High School Grad Harrison Dignan Signs to Play Basketball at SUNY Geneseo

Brewster High School senior Harrison Dignan sat surrounded by his mom and brothers last week as he signed a letter of intent to play Division III men’s basketball at SUNY Geneseo.

“Harrison is a friendly and positive member of our school community and a hard-working athlete,” said Athletic Director Dean Berardo. “Having had the opportunity to watch Harrison play in many basketball games, I can attest to the superior effort he plays the game with. I am certainly proud of what he has accomplished as an athlete here at Brewster High School.”

Dignan, who plans to study to become a high school math teacher, loved the Geneseo campus as soon as he visited. His mom, Catriona Dignan, did too.

“I’m thrilled,” she said of his decision to sign with the school. “When we visited, I knew immediately that we loved it. The campus is great. I just got a really good feeling about it — and I like the coach, so that was nice.”

Harrison echoed her sentiments, saying “I love the basketball team and I had a great time when I was there. The coach was a great guy and the players were great guys too.”

Harrison’s brothers and Brewster basketball alumni Connor and Jack Dignan were there for the signing, as was his youngest brother, William.

“I’m very proud of him. He’s put in a lot of work,” said Jack. “I’m coaching DIII basketball right now myself and having played at Oneonta, I’ll root for him the best that I can as long as he doesn’t play my team.”

Good-natured jokes aside, Harrison’s family and the school district are proud of Harrison — as both a player and a person.

“Harrison was a great leader,” said coach Tom Nelligan. “He always was focused on getting his teammates together and playing as a group. He was always positive and brought the team together. He was the hardest working player on the team. The smallest guy on the floor always got the biggest rebound and had the biggest heart.”
