Brewster Fire Department Deputy Chief Mourned

Current Brewster Fire Chief Moe DeSantis announced the passing of 35 year member, Deputy Chief and Commissioner Joseph Toscano on the Fire Department's Face book Page on July 8th.

"It is with deepest sadness that the Brewster Fire Department announces the passing of Life Member, Deputy Chief and Commissioner Joseph Toscano. Joe joined the Department in September of 1985 then rose quickly through the ranks to become the Lieutenant of Company 3 in 1987 and then Captain in 1990 before being elected to the position of 2nd Assistant Chief in 1996, ending his tenure as Chief of Department in 2002. Joe continued to dedicate his time to the Department by holding various key posts such as the Training Officer and to the Brewster-Southeast Joint Fire District by being elected as a Commissioner in 2014, a post he held till his passing.

Prior to joining the Brewster Fire Department, Joe was a dedicated member of Mamaro’s Engine 3 and Hose Co. 1 in Mamaroneck, NY for almost 15 years having joined that department in October of 1973 then risen to the rank of Captain prior to moving to Putnam County.

Deputy Chief Toscano will be waked at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Ave. in Brewster, NY, this Thursday, July 11th, from 4 to 8 PM with a firematic service at 7 PM. The funeral will take place at Mission Church, 4101 NY Rt. 52 in Holmes, NY, at 10 AM on Friday, July 12th with the burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery at 1 High St. in Port Chester, NY.
