Brewster School District Statement From Superintendent Bandlow Regarding the Passing of Zachary Schwartz

The Brewster Central School District Superintendent os Schools, Laurie Bandlow, issued the below letter earlier today regarding the passing of  BCSD Student Zachary Schwartz who passed away over the weekend after a more long battle with cancer. (Click here to read Brewster HamletHub's article regarding Zachary's Passing) Zachary was set to enter Brewster High School this month as a freshman.

Dear Brewster Family,

Over this past Labor Day weekend, the Brewster Central School District family lost a beloved student, Zachary Schwartz. As many of you know Zachary has had a long and heroic battle with leukemia.  A link to arrangements for Zachary’s can be found here.

We are meeting as District and Building-Level Crisis Teams to coordinate support for our students and staff.  We will continue to meet and plan in order to do all that we can to support our students and staff.

Counseling support will be available at Brewster High School (BHS) today, Tuesday, September 3rd, from 11:00 - 2:00.  We will continue to support students and staff throughout the week.

Please know that if you have a student at Wells Middle School and need to contact one of our counselors for a routine scheduling matter, our staff may respond somewhat more delayed than is typical.  This is due to our Wells staff supporting our students and offering a ‘friendly face’ to Zachary’s peers as they transition to BHS.

When we lose a Brewster family member, especially one as beloved as Zachary, the entire community grieves and mourns.  We will be sure to take care of one another during this time. If you are concerned about your son/daughter or one of their friends, please reach out to your building principal.  As we work through this we will be providing resources and other supports as needed.

Thank you for partnering with us to support one another during this incredibly sad time.

Sincerely,

Laurie Bandlow, Ed.D.

Superintendent Brewster Central School District
