According to American Express, they created Small Business Saturday® in the midst of the recession in 2010. Since then, Small Business Saturday® has been held on the Saturday after Thanksgiving to encourage people to Shop Small and bring more holiday shopping to small businesses.

According to the Small Business Administration, the United States has 30.7 million small businesses (99.9% of US Businesses) employing 59.9 million people (47.3% of US employees).
