As school districts across New York prepare for the possible reopening of school buildings in the fall they are awaiting guidelines and recommendations from state officials. The Regional School Reopening Task Force meetings are being held virtually to gather input needed to develop guidance and regulatory changes to allow schools to open this fall.
The Brewster Central School District is strongly represented on the task force with two of our Administrators who were selected to participate: Dr. Elizabeth Kennedy the Director of Pupil Personnel Services and Mr. Jim Treloar our Director of Technology and Innovation.
The task force meetings include more than 200 stakeholders from each region. They are discussing items such as health and safety, teaching and learning, social-emotional needs, special education, bilingual education, digital equity and access, budget, transportation, nutrition and staffing.
In one of his daily addresses, Gov. Andrew Cuomo had said guidelines for reopening K-12 schools would be coming in early June. While recommendations for reopening colleges were released, state education officials now say guidelines for schools will come on or after July 13. The State Education Department will present guidance to the Board of Regents at its next meeting on July 13 after the completion of the four regional task force meetings which are focused on reopening schools, education officials said.
