Adelphi to Host Virtual Hispanic Community Partnership, Pre-College Certificate Programs for High School Students

Next week, Adelphi University will offer two college readiness programs for high school students across the tristate area. The Hispanic Community Partnership Program and Pre-College Certificate Programs aim to provide students with the knowledge and skills to prepare for and succeed in a college setting. Both programs will be held virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Hispanic Community Partnership Program

From July 20-24, Adelphi will host its Hispanic Community Partnership Program, a free college-readiness program designed to expose Hispanic high school students to college life, while they gain skills, resources and confidence to pursue a college degree. This program is for rising high school seniors of Hispanic background from the tristate area.

To participate in the Hispanic Community Partnership Program, a student must be of Hispanic background, a rising junior or senior in good academic standing, and demonstrate qualities of potential and promise. This year, Adelphi will accept 20 students for the program.

Program workshops will include college essay writing, navigating the college application process, resume building, financial literacy and more.

Students who participate in the program that wish to apply to Adelphi will have their application fee waived, and will be eligible for a $1,000 per year award (Adelphi Advantage Award).

Pre-College Certificate Program

From July 20-22, Adelphi will offer a virtual three-day, noncredit Pre-College Certificate Program to rising high school sophomores, juniors and seniors. Through this online college-level program, students will explore one of 14 different academic subjects -- in health science, the arts, business and more -- in a challenging and supportive university-based learning community. The program costs $50.

Pre-College students will also attend two college-readiness workshops and learn tips and tricks to get ahead on their college search and application process. The workshops will be led by Adelphi professors and experts from Adelphi's Office of University Admissions and will include current Adelphi students.

At the conclusion of the program, students will earn a certificate in the subject area they choose.
