School Administrators Association Supports Choice of New BOR Chancellor

Today the New York State Board of Regents unanimously elected Dr. Lester W. Young, Jr. as its chancellor. The School Administrators Association of New York State (SAANYS) applauds this decision wholeheartedly.

SAANYS' leadership and members have witnessed firsthand over the years Dr. Young's unwavering dedication to an equitable and high-quality education for all students. As a former teacher, guidance counselor, special education supervisor, principal, and associate commissioner, Dr. Young's educational experiences, insights, and leadership qualities are without question.

SAANYS Executive Director Kevin Casey has worked with Regent Young as a member of the Blue Ribbon Committee for the Regents' Workgroup to Improve Outcomes for Boys and Young Men of Color, which Young chairs. "Dr. Young's passion for serving the students of New York State is evident in all that he does," said Casey. "In particular, his pursuit of educational equity for all and leadership of the My Brother's Keeper program are most inspiring. SAANYS looks forward to working with Dr. Young on these critical initiatives and the myriad of other issues facing our schools during these turbulent and unprecedented times."

Dr. Young will assume his new role on January 12.

SAANYS represents over 7,900 school administrators, supervisors, and coordinators. As a professional association, SAANYS is committed to providing direction, service, and support to the membership in their efforts to improve the quality of education and leadership in New York State schools. SAANYS is affiliated with the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) and the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).
