WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT TREE CLEARING IN THE TOWN OF SOUTHEAST

The Town of Southeast is located within an area identified by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) as being a potential habitat for the state and federally threatened Northern Long-eared Bat.

To protect this species, the NYSDEC says that tree clearing may only occur in areas where the species nest from November 1 through March 31 when the bats are hibernating. Tree clearing activities outside of this window may require a permit from the NYSDEC. For more information, please refer to NYSDEC's Website and contact the Region 3 Permit Office: https://www.dec.ny.gov/animals/106713.html
