Banner year for Putnam County Golf Course

Putnam County Golf Course is having a banner year, with fantastic reviews pouring in and tee times quickly filling up, but that didn’t stop Head Golf Pro Jari Tompuri from making time to coach some dedicated young golfers this year.

“We are so lucky to have the course and its great talent right here in Mahopac,” Putnam County Executive MaryEllen Odell said. “Would-be pros, students and recreational golfers all benefit from playing and taking lessons here.”

Tompuri coached Ava Minisolo for two and a half years and the hard work paid off. Ava received a scholarship to Merrimack College in Andover, MA, and will play on the college’s Division 1 Golf Team.

“Along with playing golf for the team, Ava plans on majoring in Engineering,” Golf Pro Tompuri said. “Ava played for Somers High school and competed on the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour and in the Metropolitan Junior Golf Series.”

Tompuri also coached Alex Weller with good result. Alex will begin his freshman year at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute this fall and major in Aerospace Engineering. Alex, who played for Putnam Valley High School plans to try out for RPI’s golf team. While working with Tompuri, Alex competed on the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour and in the Metropolitan Junior Golf Series

In other good news, golfer Leonard Losito scored a hole in one at Putnam County Golf Course on August 10, 2021. He aced Hole #7 from 130 yards with his Adams 5 wood using a Top-Flite golf ball.

Golfer Ray Crecco scored a hole in one at Putnam County Golf Course on August 5, 2021. He aced Hole #12 from 162 yards with his 6 iron, using a Titleist Pro V golf ball.
