Numerous Guns Seized From a Home in Carmel

Sheriff Robert L. Langley, Jr. reports that on December 2, 2021, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department Narcotic Enforcement Unit executed a search warrant at a residence in the Town of Carmel.
 
The search warrant and subsequent arrest were the culmination of a month’s long investigation into the manufacture, sale, and possession of unlawful firearms in the Mahopac area. Seized from the residence were ten unlawfully possessed pistols, one unlawfully possessed assault rifle, 67 large capacity ammunition feeding devices, as well as tools and parts to make more than 20 additional firearms. Except for one, none of the firearms had a serial number inscribed on it.
 
David Goldberg Jr. 23 years old, was charged with Criminal Possession of a Dangerous Weapon in the First Degree, Criminal Sale of a Firearm in the Third Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree (2 counts), Criminal Possession of a Firearm (10 counts), Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree. Goldberg Jr. was arraigned in the Town of Carmel Justice Court and remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 bond.
 
The PCSO Road Patrol, Identification and Forensic Unit, Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Town of Carmel Police Department, FBI Westchester County Safe Streets Task Force, and the Putnam County District Attorney’s Office assisted in the investigation.
