Putnam County’s Historic Courthouse will be lit in red for a week in memory of Timothy Klein, the FDNY firefighter who was killed Sunday in the line of duty, Putnam County Executive MaryEllen Odell announced.
Klein, 31, was killed when a ceiling collapsed as he was battling a house fire in Canarsie, Brooklyn. Several other firefighters were injured in the fatal blaze.
“This is a great loss, and our hearts go out to his family, friends, loved ones and the FDNY community,” County Executive Odell said. “Firefighters routinely put their lives on the line to help total strangers. In times like this we are reminded that we should be grateful for their service every single day.”
Klein, whose father is retired from the department, had been a firefighter for six years.
