SUNY New Paltz student Ryan Gallagher receives CMA scholarship

Ryan Gallagher of Brewster, NY is one of five SUNY New Paltz School of Business students who have become the first in campus history to receive the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) Scholarship from the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA).

The CMA Scholarship covers all expenses for the Certified Management Accountant Program, a globally recognized certification in core areas of the accounting profession. It's a key credential that's especially valuable to early career accountants, proof of their mastery of topics including financial planning, performance, analytics and strategic financial management.

In addition to the fees being covered, CMA Scholarship recipients get an exam support package to help them prepare, plus three years of membership in the IMA.

These are valuable assets for those pursuing the CMA, as it can typically take upwards of one year to complete, with recommended study time around 300 hours. The time investment is well worth it for most applicants; CMA-certified accountants earn on average 58% more in median income over the course of their careers, with greater access to promotions to high-level positions within firms of all sizes.

While these five students are the first from New Paltz to receive this scholarship, accounting programs in the School of Business have an established track record preparing future CPAs for successful careers, with the MBA earning recent recognition as one of the best-value accounting programs in the nation.
