Irene Theresa Hagan of Brewster, New York, was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She left us suddenly on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at the age of 80.
Irene was born in the Bronx to John J. Lord and Sophie (Peters) Lord. She graduated from St. John’s Elementary School in the Bronx and The Assisium High School in Manhattan. Upon graduation, Irene worked as a secretary in New York City. On October 17, 1964, she married David Patrick Hagan at St. John’s Church in Kingsbridge. They began their family in the Bronx and then moved to Brewster 46 years ago to raise their children.
Irene worked for the Kings/Barkers/Ames Department Stores in Putnam Plaza. She was elected as a Trustee for the Village of Brewster and then as the first and only female Mayor for the Village of Brewster. After retiring from the Village of Brewster, Irene worked as a secretary for Thomas J. Kelly, Esq. of Brewster. She served as a member of the Coalition for a Better Brewster. Irene enjoyed reading, baking, knitting, gardening, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren who brought much love, joy, and comfort to her.
Irene was predeceased by her husband, David, on October 13, 2010. She is survived by her two daughters, Jeanmarie Hagan of Brewster, NY, and Kelli (Joseph) Del Giorno of New Fairfield, CT, and two sons, David P. Hagan Jr. (Melissa) of Brewster, NY, and John (Megan) Hagan of Danbury, CT. Irene is survived by her five grandchildren, Alyssa, Brianna, Max, Samantha, and Cooper. She is also survived by two cousins, Elaine Kennedy and Kathy Walotsky Kelly, who were like sisters to her. In addition to those listed, she is survived many friends and extended members of the Lord and Hagan families, too many to list but fondly remembered and loved by her. She was predeceased by her two brothers and their wives, John & Patricia Lord and Thomas & Patricia Lord.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday, July 8, 2022, 10 a.m. at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church in Brewster. Interment followed in St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery.
