Martin Scorsese’s Rolling Stones Doc Shine a Light and Classic Film Casablanca Come to the Big Screen of The Ridgefield Playhouse This March

Spend a weekend at the Ridgefield Playhouse with back-to-back days of films on the big screen! On Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 7pm it’s Shine a Light, the career-spanning documentary from Martin Scorsese on The Rolling Stones. In the fall of 2006, the band took time off from their stadium tour to play the legendary Beacon Theatre in New York City with some friends and played some songs never performed live before. Academy Award Winner Martin Scorsese was there to capture it all.

Then on Sunday, March 5, 2023 at 1pm and 7pm, the classic Casablanca is back in theaters. Academy Award winners Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman light up the screen in one of the most enduring romances in movie history. As part Fathom’s Big Screen Classics, the screening includes exclusive insight from historian and critic Leonard Maltin, sharing his one-of-a-kind expertise with fans. Both screenings are part of the Cohen and Wolf P.C. Movie Series.

With Shine a Light, legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese provides a backstage pass to The Rolling Stones gig at the Beacon Theater in New York City.  The documentary, mixed with archive interviews, was filmed over a two-day period, giving fans a glimpse of the band as they prepare to take the stage for the set of shows in the fall of 2006. Fans will also see three musical guests each perform a number with the Stones. Jack White performs acoustic guitar on “Loving Cup,” Christine Aguilera performs “Live with Me” alongside Mick and Buddy Guy is a showstopper when he plays on “Champagne and Reefer” with the band. Some of the Stones greatest hits are featured including “Tumbling Dice” and “Satisfaction” to “Start Me Up” and “Shine a Light.”

“Here's looking at you, kid.” Academy Award® winners Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman light up the screen in one of the most enduring romances in movie history– Casablanca. Rick Blaine owns a nightclub in Vichy-controlled Casablanca, frequented by refugees desperate to escape German domination. Despite the ever-present human misery, Rick manages to remain uninvolved in World War II now raging across Europe and Northern Africa. But all that changes when Ilsa Lund walks through the front door of Rick’s club–Rick must now choose between a life with the woman he loves and becoming the hero that both she and the world need. As part of Fathom’s Big Screen Classics, historian and critic Leonard Maltin provides insights into the film, sharing his one-of-a-kind expertise with fans.
