292 graduates received their diplomas at Brewster High School’s 125th commencement ceremony on Saturday, June 18th. The ceremony was held at Western Connecticut State University's O'Neill Center.
Principal Dr. Joseph Castagnola, who will be retiring at the end of the school year, gave opening remarks after the presentation of colors by the NJROTC and the amazing rendition of the National Anthem and Alma Mater by the BHS Senior members of the Chamber Singers. Among the speakers at the ceremony was Valedictorian, Rory Wakeford. She gave inspiring speech including the impressive accomplishments of some of the members of the Class of 2016. Liam Callahan and the other officers of the BHS Democratic Congress announced that the Class Gift would be a donation of furniture for the senior patio and the establishment of a scholarship. In attendance were members of the 1966 graduating class.
The presentation of diplomas was an emotional high point of the day. Some students were presented their diplomas from family members who are school district employees. The BHS Band played the March from “The Meistersinger” as graduates left the ceremony to greet family and friends.
On a personal note: Among the graduates was Jacqueline Carey, whose proud parents are the Brewster HamletHub editors.
Congratulations to the Class of 2016!
