Get Fit contest returns to Hudson Valley May 13

Make the Hudson Valley your gym, win prizes when the Get Fit contest returns May 13

While you track your steps, heartbeats and inches lost, let Health Quest count your fitness activities toward the chance to win prizes and motivate you to keep moving.

Beginning Saturday, May 13, the Hudson Valley’s healthcare system is challenging the community to enter their workouts at GetFitHV.com. The free website offers fitness tips, healthy recipes and a fitness contest. Each entry at one of more than 80 check-in Get Fit workout locations counts toward raffles for prizes, such as an Apple Watch, the grand prize.

Other giveaways include memberships to local gyms and the Mohonk Preserve, a Bestowed subscription, Nutribullet, sporting goods store gift cards, fitness gear and more.

The winners will be announced after the six-week challenge ends on Saturday, June 24.

“The Get Fit challenge gives people of all fitness levels an extra incentive to get their exercise in each week and discover new ways to make the valley their gym,” said M. Zubair Jafar, a physician who leads the sports cardiology program for The Heart Center, a division of Hudson Valley Cardiovascular Practice, PC.

There is no cost to take the Get Fit challenge and all types of exercise count. There are more than 80 gyms, public parks, outdoor trails and other popular recreation sites in Dutchess, Ulster and Putnam counties and beyond that are check-in sites. Some include: the Walkway Over the Hudson, trails at Hyde Park’s historic sites, the Putnam County Trailway, All Sport in Fishkill and Scenic Hudson’s parks.

To celebrate the spring challenge, Health Quest invites the public to attend the Get Fit Kickoff Party from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 13 at Upper Landing Park, 83 N. Water St., Poughkeepsie. (Changed due to weather - read this article)
