Mary Poppins and the Metro Awards: What Were the Results?

On June 12 at Purchase College, schools from Bergen, Rockland, Putnam, and Westchester counties received Metro Awards for their outstanding theater productions. Brewster was one of the 53 participating schools in the Metro Awards competition this year. Brewster’s Mary Poppins started off on a high note, receiving nominations for best overall production, actress in a leading role (Megan Campbell as Mary Poppins), actress in a supporting role (Erin Vaughan as Winifred Banks), actor in a supporting role (R.J. Frankenberry as Bert), cameo (Martina Rossi as Bird Woman), child actor (Brooke Ryan as Jane Banks) and stage crew.

The actual winners were impressive! Stepinac and Harrison schools won the most awards (four), but Brewster came victoriously close with 3: Megan Campbell’s spot-on role as Mary Poppins won her best actress in a leading role, Martina Rossi’s emotional performance as bird woman got her best cameo performance, and Brooke Ryan’s role as Jane Banks was awarded with best child actor. This is truly an extraordinary feat from Brewster as their theater department climbs higher and higher. They are astoundingly outperforming themselves with each production. We should be so proud of how far they’ve come, from their humble 20-person productions over a decade ago to their shining glory as a leader in drama in the hudson valley region. Way to go Brewster! And congratulations to everyone who contributed to the success of Mary Poppins!
