Brewster K-9 Falco loses battle with cancer

Village mayor Jim Shoenig announced via his Facebook page yesterday that Village PD K-9 Falco had lost his nearly year long battle with cancer.

"I regret to inform you that K-9 Falco has lost his battle to cancer. Falco was a fighter and worked to the end including Founders Day.

My sympathy to Sgt. Italiano who has lost his partner.

Falco was diagnosed with lymphoma last November and had been undergoing treatment for the disease. Mayor Schoenig noted that Falco was a fighter and had continued working with his partner, Sgt. Italiano, up to and including last months Founders Day festival.

Falco was also beloved by the local residents who noted how sweet and friendly Falco was while leaving condolences on the Village Facebook page.

John Del Gardo posted, "The passing of K-9 Falco who is a member of the Brewster Police Department is a sad day for the Village of Brewster. He was a great K-9 who knew what his job was looking for explosives and assisting other Police departments. My heart goes out to Sgt Italiano and his family."
