Brewster Hill Home to Aurelia’s Organic Garden

With the purchase of this house on Brewster Hill Road a dream for us came true. Especially for my husband Christophe who has now the space to keep his seven horses and the pony on our own pastures around the house. Riding the horses is our hobby. Our profession is violin making. Christophe has his main shop in New York City next to Lincoln Center. He is a violin maker, a bow maker, an expert and a dealer of fine stringed instruments.

We always tried to live and eat healthy especially since we have our two daughters. Not only that but also the development of the food industry made us wanting to know what exactly we are eating. So we started to have our own chickens for real organic fresh eggs.

On top of that we decided to grow vegetables to be eventually more self-sufficient.

Since we just started to have a vegetable garden and a lot of chickens to call us a farm we still have to figure out how to do a lot of things better.

But I really enjoy gardening even if there is so little time because of the two little girls and we are glad that we already could and can provide vegetables and eggs to our neighbors! Also having an organic vegetable garden gives an extra meaning to having horses since we use the manure to fertilize.

So the farmstand was basically a side effect of our way of life and it developed with all our projects. We made good experience with the honor system so far, trust people and hope they stay honest so we can leave it like that. This year we could provide eggs, zucchini, beets, tomatoes, peppers, wild garlic and now kale, but the  goal is to offer even more vegetables and herbs and fruits. It’s not something that will happen overnight but since we moved in in July I’m very happy that we could manage so many things already.

Besides the house, the garden, the pastures and the farm stand you might also have seen one or two horse sculptures from the street. Those are made by Christophe’s elder son Adrian Landon, who is an artist and sculptor making those amazing full-size horse sculptures out of steel which are for sale. You will find a video of his mechanical horse on YouTube and also look him up on his homepage Adrianlandon.com and Instagram.

We would love to have art exhibitions both in the garden and in the house.

But sculptures and paintings are not the only arts we have around us.

Since we have a lot of customers and friends which are violinists, violists or cellists -and I myself am a violinist and singer too- we make a lot of music in our house. In future with think of having regularly Sunday afternoon chamber music concerts in the house.

As you can see a lot already happened and a lot is going to happen in future and we can’t wait to realize all our ideas and share with our friends and neighbors!!!
