NOAA Issues Hazardous Weather Alert for Saturday and Sunday

Hazardous weather is possible Saturday afternoon through the day Sunday as a strong cold front moves rapidly east across the area late Saturday night.

A Hazardous Weather Outlook has been issued for a 1 in 3 chance of sustained west winds up to 40 mph or wind gusts up to 58 mph during the day Sunday. South winds of 20 to 40 mph are likely across coastal areas Saturday afternoon and evening.  A widespread rainfall of ¼-3/4 inch is likely Saturday afternoon through Saturday night.

The combination of strong winds and moderate rainfall might cause the following impacts: 

  • Minor urban flooding of low lying poor drainage areas, including where catch basins are clogged with fallen leaves.
  • Some tree limbs might fall onto power lines causing widely scattered power outages.
