Students worked hard at the Hip-Hop Master Class taught by LA Choreographer, Misha Gabriel on September 22 at Seven Star School of Performing Arts in Brewster, NY. Gabriel was recently a guest choreographer on So You Think You Can Dance this summer.
Over 65 students in two classes learned a dance routine, gained insight and received advice on improving their hip-hop moves. Gabriel started dancing at age 2 and decided to make dancing his career at age 10. His mother, a professional dancer and a ballet teacher, never pushed him into a dance career but once he expressed his passion to pursue it, she encouraged his efforts.
In addition to performing in movies, Janet Jackson videos, TV and various live performances, Gabriel was selected as a principal dancer for Michael Jackson's This Is It concerts and was subsequently featured in the behind the scenes film with the same name. “I would say biggest accomplishment to date would be booking the Michael Jackson job,” states Gabriel, “Nothing can top that as far as dance experiences.”
Inspired by his energy, enthusiasm and obvious love of dance, Students were encouraged by Gabriel to improve their lines and add energy and attitude to their form. Gabriel explained, “I enjoy doing studio work because it is a personal, intimate setting where I feel like I can really connect with the dancers.” And connect he did!
