Spring Suggestions about College Prep

Although, the weather fluctuates between warm and freezing, EA Test Prep is consistently preparing our students for college. This month, we are particularly aware that smaller tasks must be accomplished to avoid the Spring deluge of “must do” activities for juniors. Here are some EA suggestions:

  • Decide which SAT or ACT you taking and register for it. Remember that preparation for these tests is required. The EA Test Prep Team offers comprehensive preparation in a concise six-week program. Our program is designed to meet individual learning styles. Our next classes begin March 28 at Brewster High School. Space is limited so don't wait until the last minute.
  • Now is the ideal time to search for the colleges you might want to attend. Think about whether you want a small, medium, or large school. Do you want to live in an urban, rural, or suburban area? Determine the type of weather you enjoy and make sure that the school is geographically located to provide it.
  • Meet with your guidance counselor and obtain a list of “safety,” “target,” and “reach” schools. Sometimes, counselors don’t want to meet this early in the year, but explain your reasons and perhaps that will meet with you. If the answer remains, “No,” proceed with the suggestions provided here and that first meeting will be extremely productive because you already have many ideas.
  • For each college you are considering, visit their website and learn about the courses, dorms, and student life. If you have any questions, the answer should be on the website.

Remember that college is the place that you will spend the next four years of your life. Although your primary goal is to learn the skills you will need to obtain a job when you graduate and/or to increase your understanding of world, your happiness at the school will directly affect your ability to achieve that.

If you begin to actively participate in your college search before the crocuses appear, the process will proceed in a smoother fashion.
