Health Quest’s 6-week Get Fit Challenge returns April 28

Go for a hike. Stretch at a park. Hit the gym. Or tackle the workout of the week to be eligible for prize drawings during Health Quest’s spring Get Fit Challenge.

Beginning Saturday, April 28, the healthcare system challenges the communities of the Hudson Valley and northwest Connecticut to get active and log their workouts at WeGetFit.org. Sign up for a free Get Fit account at the website and learn how to eat healthy and exercise while exploring the parks, trails and other fitness opportunities nearby.

“The challenge has helped my fitness journey,” 28-year-old Poughkeepsie resident April Bourlier said. “Not to mention, I have made a few friends along the way who have the same passion to stay active.”

There is no cost to take the Get Fit Challenge and all types of exercises count, from biking to yoga to kayaking. New features this spring include a different website with a leader dashboard and the ability to back date workouts.

Each entry at one of more than 160 Get Fit check-in locations counts toward raffles for prizes, including a Mohonk Mountain House spa package for two, sporting goods store gift cards and Get Fit Challenge apparel. The more you check in, the better your chances are to win.

“The challenge has helped me … stick to my weekly workouts at my favorite local spots,” Bourlier said.

The winners will be announced after the six-week challenge ends on Saturday, June 9.

“With 30 minutes of exercise per day, you can prevent many chronic diseases and often reverse the detrimental effects of being overweight or obese,” said Dr. Brian Binetti, medical director of Northern Dutchess Hospital’s bariatric surgery program.

Check-in locations in Dutchess, Ulster, Putnam counties in New York, Litchfield County in Connecticut and beyond include popular road races, fitness centers, public parks, outdoor trails and other recreation sites such as the Walkway Over the Hudson, rail trails, the Putnam County Trailway, many state parks near Sharon, Conn., and Scenic Hudson’s preserves.
