"Earth Puppets" Educates Community Members

Last Sunday, April 22nd was the 2nd annual “Earth Day Puppets” event at the Southeast Veterans Park Gazebo. An estimated 45 people attended the outdoor event which was perfect to celebrate earth day and the lovely spring weather.

The event included two original plays, “The Lost Polar Bear” and “Bees”. Earth Puppets, created by Rebecca Rabinowitz, is a part of the “Do Something” movement to stand up in a time when the threat of global warming and the need to take care of our planet is ever growing. The show included frogs, trout, polar bears, bald eagles, bees and flower costumes made out of paper, cardboard, wire and other recycled materials. Local children and teens that worked the puppets included Amanda Shkreli, Paige Shkreli, Taylor Shkreli, Lilly Holmes, Brenna Holmes, Ben Bisogno, Sandy Rabinowitz and Jackie Bisogno. They volunteered to make the event come to life. “Creativity is my way of  'doing something' for positive change. I have been an artist, actress, children's theater teacher for many years,” said director and coordinator Rebecca Rabinowitz

All who came out had an educational and entertaining experience. "Earth Puppets combines all of these skills in a positive experience for children and adults, A lot of work, but for me, lots of fun. The children who volunteered to perform were wonderful. Sharing the experience of performing very rewarding. Audience participation was a big part of the show. I think our young audience learned about nature and the earth. So did their parents.”  says Rabinowitz

Special thanks to Rebecca Rabinowitz.
