Southeast Firework Display Wows Residents

Last Sunday, July 1st The Southeast Fireworks committee held there 6th annual 4th of July Fireworks Extravaganza in the Highlands Shopping Plaza. It is estimated that over 4,000 people attended the festivities this year, topping last year's numbers.

The weather was warm and humid, making it the perfect background to celebrate Independence Day. The local band “Saving Athens” headlined the event playing many different genres of song. Their set had something that pleased everybody in the audience, young and old. The music had everyone dancing around the stage and eagerly awaiting the fireworks. Jenn Desantis, Charlie Fitzpatrick, RJ Frankenberry and Jimmy Hartigan, students from Spotlight Arts performed their harmonious rendition of the National Anthem. Directly following the National Anthem the main event began and the fireworks shot into the sky. The fireworks were seen all over Brewster. Some residents didn’t even need to leave the comfort of their own lawn to watch the fireworks. All who came out to the extravaganza enjoyed friends, music, and fireworks.

This event brought  Southeast and surrounding communities together to celebrate the origin of the United States and to have a fun night to kick off the summer. “This event is one of my favorite because of the atmosphere and just all the fun that everyone is having in each others company,” says attendee Chloe Stalker. There were many private businesses such as DeCicco's, Coco's Nail Salon, Carmel WinWater and Durante Rental that supported and sponsored the event.

Special Thanks to Lisa’s Towing for providing the flatbed stage, the sound engineers at K Bays Sound Concepts for donating their time and to the numerous volunteers who made this event possible. This is the sixth year that the Fireworks have been financed by private donations.
