Local Students in Rehearsal for "The Nutcracker"

Local Students in Rehearsal for Annual Holiday Tradition

Visions of dancing sugar plum fairies are already the focus of over 175 local performers who were selected for the Seven Star School of Performing Arts’ annual holiday tradition of “The Nutcracker" coming to Brewster, NY on December 11 through December 13 at Brewster High School’s Performing Arts Center.

Anita Intrieri, the Director of Ballet, auditioned and cast young dancers who range in age from 4 to 20 to perform in the four performances of "The Nutcracker." To maximize the number of children who will have the incredible experience of participating in the production, several roles are double-cast, with some students dancing in two shows.

"The Nutcracker Ballet, by Tchaikovsky, is one of the most famous ballets in the world.  Performing as well as watching The Nutcracker is an important Christmas holiday tradition,” explains Ms. Intrieri.   “More than any other ballet, The Nutcracker is about children and the magic of childhood. In America, The Nutcracker is generally a child's first real professional experience.  Performances are typically filled with audience members of all ages anxiously awaiting the memorable dances, beautiful music, and glorious scenes they have cherished year after year.  Performing this ballet is an event to be remembered as well as an honor for all involved.”

This version of The Nutcracker is choreographed by Anita Intrieri, Pat Sorrell, Melissa Nigelhout, Jaclyn Yarusso, Andrei Isselev, Nicole Aravena, Erin Burton, Jackie Medeira and Marius Petipa.

Tickets are available at Seven Star School of Performing Arts 509 Route 312 in Brewster. Performances are Friday, December 11th at 6:30 PM; Saturday, December 12th at 3 PM & 7:30 PM and Sunday, December 13th at 3 PM. Pre-sale tickets are $15 and $20 at the door.
