Brewster Student Athlete Signs Letter of Intent

Brewster High School senior Meagan Beal will take her lacrosse skills to the collegiate level next fall, having signed a letter of intent to play for Furman University in Greenville, S.C.

Calling Beal “hardworking and friendly,” Athletic Director Dean Berardo said Meagan was not only a force on the lacrosse field but was an important player on the girls basketball team as well. “I look forward to following her success in Division 1 Women’s Lacrosse next year,” Berardo said.

A midfielder, Beal was named All Section last year and Academic All American.

“I have had the honor of coaching Meagan since she was in second or third grade and the years have been amazing,” said Lacrosse Coach Sara DiDio. “She is such a leader on and off the field…our girls love her.”

Meagan, who plans to study neuroscience in college, praised Brewster teachers and coaches for helping her succeed.

“I have had really great teachers who have prepared me not only for the academic setting but for college in general, and have helped to make me a well-rounded person,” she said. “My basketball and lacrosse coaches were two of the best coaches in the whole section and they have prepared me for every aspect of this.”

Meagan was joined by her parents, Adam and Cindy Beal, and her brother, Austin, and her grandfather for the official letter of intent signing ceremony.

Cindy said signing a commitment letter was “the culmination of several years of hard work and shows that she is capable of playing at the highest level” of collegiate sports.

For her dad, the day was a milestone in a “tremendous journey that began when she was 7 years old and picked up that lacrosse stick for the first time…I am so proud of her.”
