Brewster Students Perform in the New York State School Music Association Area All State Festival

On November 17, 12 Brewster High School students participated in the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Area All State Festival in Hyde Park.

Musicians from schools throughout the Hudson Valley were selected based on scores from their vocal or instrumental performances in last spring’s NYSSMA Solo Festival. The student musicians chosen were placed in the festival’s Mixed Chorus, Treble Chorus, Band, and Orchestra conducted by professional or collegiate directors.

While weather-related cancellations cut their rehearsal time in half, students persevered. They arrived at 9 a.m. at host school Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park to begin rehearsal and performed at 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Students in the Treble Choir sang under the direction of Dr. Janet Galvan, professor of music at Ithaca College. Students in Concert Choir sang under Dr. Mihoko Tsutsumi from SUNY Oswego. Band students under Keith Hodgson from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
