Last week over 130 students from the Brewster High School Music Department and NJROTC boarded three different flights and traveled to Disney World, in Orlando Florida to participate in various performances and workshops.
On Saturday, February 16th, the Brewster High School Marching Band performed in Walt Disney World’s “Festival of Fantasy” pre-parade. The 73-member ensemble played music from “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones” as they marched down Main Street USA in Magic Kingdom. The ensemble included members of the band under the direction of Brian Sanyshyn and Andrea Perdicho, with drumline instructor Seamus Carey, the color guard under the direction of Katie Parapugna, and an NJROTC unit under the command of Commander Earl Waidelich. The band looked and sounded fantastic and the crowds seemed to agree!
Students from both the chamber orchestra and the symphonic orchestra, under the direction of Rob Davies participated in a workshop taught by a seasoned Disney musician/educator. Highlights include students learning just what it takes to be a professional Disney musician, playing different arrangements of Disney music, and the finale: Playing a Disney movie soundtrack and having that over-dubbed onto a scene from the same movie!
These workshops were an inspiring experience for our students – several walked away remarking they wanted to learn more about voice-over work and many of the singers and dancers in the ensemble are researching future Disney audition dates to attend.
