Immaculate High School Presents "Twelfth Night" with a Unique Twist

Immaculate High School’s award-winning Fine Arts department is staging Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night,’ presenting its own unique production of the Shakespeare classic on November 16, 17 and 18.

Student thespians have created a story setting that has “Twelfth Night” take place in the American Old West during the 1600’s. Robust interpretations of traditional theatrical classics has garnered many CT HALO awards for Immaculate’s Fine Arts productions. In 2015 they received Best Classical Play for “The Tragedy of Julius Caesar,” they received best lead and feature actors for their 2016 production of “Hamlet,” and last spring were awarded Best Classical Musical for “Fiddler on the Roof.

Twelfth Night will be performed in the IHS Bobby Plumb gymnasium on November 16 through 18 beginning at 7:00 p.m. General admission and luxury seating tickets as well as sponsorship opportunities are available by visiting www.immaculatehs.org/twelfthnightGeneral admission tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for student and seniors.

“Get ready for rivalry and revelry in this tale of mistaken identity transplanted to the Old West,” said Alexa Wild, IHS English Teacher and Drama Director. She explains the plot of the IHS production: “Chaos ensues when twins Sebastian and Viola are shipwrecked in the Gulf of Mexico and separated. Forced to assume a male disguise to protect herself, Viola, now called Cesario, goes to work on Duke Orsino’s Ranch. The Duke, in love with the Lady Olivia, sends ‘Cesario’ to woo his lady. But the disguise becomes a curse when Olivia falls in love with this ‘young man.’ Meanwhile, Olivia’s uncle, Sir Toby Belch, and maidservant Maria, concoct a plan to make Olivia’s manager, Malvolio, look more foolish than he already does. And it only gets worse when Sebastian, thought drowned, turns up and confuses everyone and everything.”
