Collecting the History of Baseball

With Baseball Historian and Collector
Michael Adamovich

Sunday September 23, 2018 at 1:00 pm

Since its creation and eventual growth in popularity to become America’s pastime, the game of baseball - its rules, equipment, and uniforms - has continued to develop and evolve. Learn more about how baseball has changed… and why! And while the game and its accoutrements have continued to transform, an entire industry of baseball collectibles – from the baseball card to the pennant to the autographed, game-used ball or uniform, has grown up around it. Hear baseball enthusiast, historian, umpire, player and collector Mike “MOOKie Adamovich” explain how it happened, with lots of collectibles to show-and-tell, in his presentation: Basically Baseball.

There will be several GREAT door prizes provided by friends of the PV Historical Society like the Hudson Valley Renegades, Rockland Boulders, and the Yogi Berra Museum and Learning Center!

Michael “MOOKie” Adamovich

Mike Adamovich was born and raised in Yonkers, NY and played baseball in the Bryn Mawr Boys Club - taking 2 years off due to an arm injury at the age of 10 (throwing curve balls in the rain). During that time he started to read and learn about the history of baseball. Returning to the field, he played against former (then future) Yankees Outfielder Wendell "Dell" Alston. At 15, Mike continued playing and then turned to umpiring, mentored by Bill Grieve, a former American League umpire. During his youth, Mike was also an avid collector of baseball cards -  and, yes, his mother eventually threw all of his cards away!

Mike Adamovich is a  24-year Veteran of the Army Reserve and was a Senior Court Officer for almost 33 years. A job related accident caused him to start collecting again, expanding his collection beyond just cards, to include old equipment and game-worn uniforms. Mike and his wife Pamela (the former Putnam Valley High School Nurse) have two daughters, Alexis Thornton (a Putnam Valley High School teacher) and Krista Adamovich-Rippe, DVM, a Veterinary Surgeon in Austin TX.
