Arts on the Lake Summer Music Camp

What’s a better way to spend your summer than perfecting your musical skills with your friends? On July 8, Arts on the Lake will open its doors to local middle and high school students to play and perform in their musical summer camps. Focusing on band, jazz, and string instruments, the camps offer students with one or more years of experience the chance to train with Carmel High School music teachers and industry professionals at Art on the Lake’s convenient Kent location.

Carmel High School trumpet player Jack Recher attended the band and jazz session last summer, and plans on attending again this year.

“I got to collaborate with others and had a great time. I would highly recommend it to anybody who plays an instrument to keep up their skills over the summer while out of school,” he said.

Summer camps begin on July 8, 2019 and run through July 25, 2019, with each week focusing on a different musical discipline. Each weeklong session will conclude in a Thursday evening performance open to the public, sometimes held at an outdoor stage overlooking Lake Carmel weather permitting. Over 80 students participated last year, coming from all across Putnam County to practice and perform together.

“Part of our mission at Arts in the Lake is to offer opportunities for artistic enrichment to the students in our area. I’m always amazed to hear how incredible the students sound at the final performance after only working together for a week.” states Arts on the Lake Executive Director Edward Durkee.
