The Brewster Public Library Board of Trustees held their annual meeting this last Wednesday evening via zoom.
At that meeting the Board discussed a possible finishing date for the new Library addition which was approved by the Town of Southeast voters in 2017. The Bond, for 2.93 million, allowed the library to almost double in size., add program rooms and completely refurbish the lower level and most of the main floor. The exterior of the original building was left untouched as was the Original Reading Room which was renamed the David Bruen Reading Room in honor of the former Board President and 40 year Library Trustee who past away in 2014.
The new addition will have room for private tutoring or studying, a 50 person multi use purpose room, more restrooms and completely revamped Children’s Room and an elevator. They are expected to re-open to the public in early March of this year. The original finish date of January 2021 was moved back due to Covid-19 restrictions and closures earlier in 2020. The antiquated official opening is anticipate duo be in mid-March depending on state guidance and local building department approvals.
The next meeting of the Brewster Public Library Board of Trustees will be held via Zoom on Wednesday February 24, 2021 at 5:00pm.
