On Tuesday, August 2nd the Town of Patterson’s Putnam Lake Park District will join 16,000 other communities around the United States for the 33rd Annual National Night Out. (NNO) In all, over 38 million people are expected to participate in this event which is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and send a message to criminals letting them know those neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
From 6-9 PM, the Park District will host a giant block party at Memorial Field celebrating its efforts to make Putnam Lake a safer and better place to live. Major partners include the Putnam Lake Fire Department, the New York State Police, and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department.
Putnam County Sheriff Don Smith underscored the importance of this partnership saying, “Our mutual support of the 2016 National Night Out supports this relationship of communication, coordination, cooperation and mutual respect between our law enforcement community and the people that we are entrusted to serve. I thank all the people of Putnam Lake, the Town of Patterson and indeed, all of Putnam County for their strong support of our law enforcement and emergency services as they serve as our ‘eyes and ears.’”
The evening’s activities will feature a bounce house and other games and activities for children, free refreshments and giveaways, demonstrations by tracking and sniffer dogs, the opportunity to explore the fire department’s rescue boat and fire engine, learn CPR, and pick up crime prevention tips. This event is open to the public and is free of charge.
