Local Businesses Help Community Members without Power

With most of Route 22 and the surrounding area (some since Friday's Storm) without power, local businesses are providing a warm place to stay, charging stations for devices, WiFi connection and/or a place to buy hot meal or coffee.

In addition to the Comfort Stations announced by Putnam County, businesses with power in Brewster Village and the Town of Southeast are conducting business as usual. Right now, I'm at the Moonlight Cafe using their WiFi, charging my tech and enjoying a warm soup. They are open until 7pm tonight. With tax season in full swing, James L. Hayes MBA would be working regardless of whether he had power or not at his office at 8 Main Street in Brewster. Fortunately, they have power, internet and phones are up and working if anyone is in need of his services.

Brewster Library is open! Library Director Gina LoPrinzo stated on their Facebook page, "Are you without power? Head over to the Brewster Library! We're open until 7pm, and we have heat and internet, including free wifi of course! If you do have power, but don't feel like shoveling out just yet, visit our website to download free ebooks, audiobooks, music, or movies! Or you can view hundreds of courses with your library card at Lynda.com! Don't hesitate to call us with any questions at 845-279-6421."

Edward Jones is located at 20 Milltown Road in Brewster at the intersection of Route 22 and is one of the businesses affected by the outage. "We were fortunate to keep power on and business-as-usual through last week's storm. Today we are closed because our power is out," explains Bill Flash of Edward Jones. "We appreciate all of the linemen out there working hard to get power restored to our neighbors and ourselves. Hopefully we will be open tomorrow. If you see our lights back on, and you need a place to charge your phone or get a hot cup of coffee, please stop in."

DeCicco's of Brewster is providing a very valuable service to the community. They stated, "Yes we are open and yes we are still providing storage. Just stop by if you would like us to store anything for you." They are open until 8:30PM this evening.

Seven Star School of Performing Arts was closed until 2:30pm but are now open and holding dance classes. Parents are availing themselves of the free WiFi and electric outlets in their parent lounge.

Give a call before you head out to a local business to confirm that they are still open.
