Brewster Schools Shares videos on presentations and Announces Community Forums

The following letter was sent by BSCD Superintendent, Valerie Henning-Piedmonte on April 24, 2018

Dear Brewster Community,

I would like to thank the Brewster JFK Elementary School PTA, Brewster Intermediate/Middle School PTA and Brewster High School PTSA for sponsoring a presentation last week by Dr. Stephen Dewey, who spoke about the dangers of vaping, juuling, drugs and alcohol use. It was a very important reminder of the harm that vaping, drugs and alcohol can do to the brain and body of an adolescent or teen. In light of the increase in vaping and juuling among teens, it is that much more important that we find the means to bring him back to address the students at HH Wells and Brewster High School. This is the video . I also emailed it to the high school students.

We also held a presentation called Safety in our Schools to familiarize you with the measures that are underway to ensure the safety of our students and staff. This is the video .

Some people use social media as a source of news about the District. A community member contacted me about some information that was obtained from Facebook and suggested that forums be held for community members who may not feel comfortable speaking at a Board meeting. This would give members of the community an opportunity to ask questions and hear about what is happening in our District. A forum would also give me an opportunity to share examples of what we are doing to prepare all children for success in life, work and future learning, which is the goal for students outlined in our Strategic Coherence Plan. The dates for the first two forums are May 1, 5:30pm-6:30pm in the CV Starr Library and June 4, 7:00pm-8:00pm in the CV Starr Library. Forums will continue in the 2018-19 school year and the times will vary from month to month to accommodate day and evening schedules.

When you get a chance, please take a look at the two videos that I mentioned. They are located on our website and found by clicking the YouTube link at the top of the page.

Thank you. Warm regards,

Valerie Henning-Piedmonte
