Carmel Gymnastics Gym Has New Events and Offerings

VeGa Gymnastics, in Carmel, is a member of the USA Gymnastics program offering a variety of classes and teams for children of all ages in our area.  Last season, their Junior Olympic gymnasts finished out a dazzling season with several New York State Champions, and even sent one of their high-level gymnasts to the Regional Championship competition in Massachusetts to represent New York.  That gymnast finished second in the region of seven states on vault, a very high honor in the gymnastics community.  While the competition squads have been racking up medals and titles, the recreational class students have been growing literal leaps and bounds through the many class options available.

The gymnastics center, in operation for eight years, has a program base geared towards the whole gymnast.  They believe in providing instruction to provide health and success in both physical and mental aspects of the sport.  The instructors and staff of the gym continuously attend courses and training to learn and improve their knowledge of the ever-evolving sport.  They attended USA Gymnastics' annual National Congress this summer in Rhode Island, spending four days taking in lectures, demonstrations, hands-on instruction, and testing.

With the success of the programs currently in place, VeGa Gymnastics has decided to expand their class and team options this year and open their new season with a free community event for the kick off.

Parents will be excited to learn about a groundbreaking new weekly session for babies through age 8 months, a free ‘class’ for our smallest community members to roll, crawl, and interact with each other in a safe, colorful and engaging environment! Tummy Time Fun is a surefire way to develop our tiny tots!

They understand that while gymnastics is a great sport for the whole body, not all kids want to learn the specific skills that go along with it. New this fall will be a fitness class filled with jumping, climbing, swinging, lifting, and racing! Encouraging a healthy love of fitness is something that VeGa hopes to provide through this new course.

The Junior Olympic team program has been so successful that a new USA Gymnastics competition track called Xcel will be taking off this coming competition year. The Xcel team is a team that will go to competitions against other squads, but without the rigorous time commitment required under the Junior Olympic track. The new group has been practicing and will start vying for medals this coming winter.

VeGa is going to continue their huge hit, the Toddler Open Gym, with seventeen dates scheduled throughout the colder months, now available with special package pricing. The school-aged Open Gyms will number twelve and are also available at package rates. Birthday party options have changed, and new exciting obstacles are underway!

The fall session at VeGa starts September 5th, but to coincide with USA Gymnastics’ annual National Gymnastics Day (the entity’s 20th!) there will be a free community event, an Open House, on Saturday, September 15th from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. According to an event found on the gym’s facebook page, “All newcomers can enter to win a free year's membership, and participating kids will be eligible to win special fun prizes throughout this awesome event!”. The page promises free obstacles and in speaking to owner Kris Spassov, coaches will be there to answer questions and meet children and talk to parents about their current and new programs. It sounds to this writer like a fun event for a September Saturday, and free can’t be beat!

Spassov noted, “Gymnastics isn’t just a sport, it’s an experience. We want to make it a fun and healthy experience for our whole community. I read an article once that called gymnastics ‘the mother of all sports,’ and our goal is to provide a basis to kids in our community to build a love for gymnastics and create an opportunity to succeed - in any sport in the future - based on what they learn with us.”
