Brewster, NY (April 29th, 2019) - SPACE on Ryder Farm, the acclaimed residency program for artists and activists located at 406 Starr Ridge Road in Brewster, is kicking off its inaugural growing season with a Mother's Day Weekend Plant Sale, taking place Saturday, May 11th from 9am to 4pm and Sunday, May 12th from 11am to 3pm.

The Brewster Chamber of Commerce will lead a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 9:30am on Saturday, May 11th to celebrate SPACE’s new management of agricultural operations at Ryder Farm, which it assumed in 2019 following the retirement of Betsey Ryder of Ryder Farm Cottage Industries, who had farmed the property since 1978.

SPACE’s Plant Sale will offer certified organic vegetables, herbs and flowers to plant, grown onsite at Ryder Farm--including 11 varieties of heirloom tomatoes, summer and winter squash, salad greens, sweet and spicy pepper varieties and more. There will also be flowering hanging baskets, heirloom seeds from Hudson Valley Seed Company and SPACE merchandise for purchase. Additionally, SPACE will offer guided tours of the historic Ryder Farm homestead and growing fields, activities for kids and a food truck for picnicking on the lawn.

Produce from Ryder Farm will be available for purchase through October at SPACE’s roadside stand on Starr Ridge Road, at the Friday Union Square Greenmarket in New York City, and via SPACE’s sliding scale CSA (community supported agriculture) membership. CSA memberships provide weekly installments of vegetables and herbs for pickup at Ryder Farm from June to October. Taking advantage of SPACE’s network of over 1,300 resident alumni, CSA members can also expect to find samplings of the artistic projects cultivated at Ryder Farm among their weekly allotment of kale and tomatoes. To sign up for a 2019 CSA membership (deadline May 17th), visit spaceonryderfarm.org/farm (en Español: spaceonryderfarm.org/granja).
