A "Call to Arms" from Putnam County Veterans for Volunteers.

The following is a "Call to Arms" from Karl Rhode, Director of the Putnam County Veterans Service Agency.

Not unlike Sybil Ludington’s call out of her fathers troops to help defend Danbury from the British, I am riding the hills and valleys of the internet to issue a “Call to Arms” if you will. A Call to Arms to defend the Veterans Monument at Putnam County Veterans Memorial Park. Several years ago a faceless coward desecrated our monument with red paint. Since that “attack” Veterans and friends had gathered on he Friday, Saturday and Sunday before Memorial Day from 6 pm until 6 am each day to guard the monument and to retire American flags. They have covered every tour of duty every year.Sometimes cobbling together a “platoon”of Veterans and Non-Veterans tours at the very last minute. Their ranks are however growing thinner each year. Each year it becomes more difficult to fill the tours.

To that point Volunteers are needed to cover from midnight on Saturday May 26 to 6 am Sunday. We are asking for volunteers on that evening to honor the monument, our Veterans, Service Members and our flag by joining us for that tour of duty.

Call the office if you want to join in the Call to Arms or feel free to just show up. Someone will be there even if they are alone. Our monuments will not be abandoned.

Thank you and God Bless.
