Maloney Announces $88,479 Grant to Dutchess County for Senior Volunteer Program

Grant will help fund Senior Corps volunteer services in the Hudson Valley

Poughkeepsie, NY - Today, Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18) announced Community Action Partnership for Dutchess County was awarded a $88,479 Senior Corps grant through the Americorp’s Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), the federal agency for volunteering and service.

This grant will support over 300 Senior Corps volunteers in the RSVP program and expand Senior Corps’ presence in the Hudson Valley. Community Action Partnership for Dutchess County is one of only 10 awardees from New York State.

“Hudson Valley seniors make New York stronger, often volunteering their time to brighten our communities and better the lives of our next generation,” said Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney. “I’m proud to announce the Community Action Partnership for Dutchess County has received this great Senior Corps grant, and look forward to over 300 Senior Corps RSVP program volunteers strengthening Dutchess County and the surrounding area.”

“This grant will help Dutchess County connect more area seniors with volunteer projects across the county,” said JoAnn Hickman, Director of the RSVP program, Community Action Partnership for Dutchess County. “We can’t wait to get out in our community and get to work making the Hudson Valley a better place to live.”

The Senior Corps RSVP Program – one of America’s largest volunteer networks for people 55 and older – helps communities address a wide variety of pressing challenges, including mentoring area students and young people, supporting veterans, fighting the opioid epidemic through education initiatives, and more.

Senior Corps is a program of the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), which engages millions of Americans in service each year through Senior Corps and AmeriCorps programs and leads volunteer and civic engagement initiatives for the nation. Senior Corps expands the opportunity for seniors to serve the community in a volunteer capacity, and some eligible seniors can earn a small stipend through the program.
